In this post, I’ll be rotating an Intune wallpaper and lock screen image with the

Azure VM OS disk and C: drive sizes don’t match? Fix in bulk, prevent in Bicep (no RDP required)

| Azure, Azure Virtual Desktop | Leave a Comment

G’day! Quick one this time, about a small chore that keeps coming back. You expand Azure VM OS disk space in the portal, or deploy a VM with a bigger disk than the image it came from, and Azure shows the new size. Then you look inside Windows and C: is still the old size,

Mute Apps During Teams Calls Automatically: Teams Audio Ducking

| M365, Windows | Leave a Comment

G’day! This one is a bit different from my usual Intune and AVD content: a personal side quest. I wanted something to mute apps during Teams calls automatically, because I kept getting caught out by the same daft scenario. A call comes in, Spotify is playing, and a YouTube video is going in one of

Azure VM Script Runner: a free tool to run scripts, commands and PSADT deployments on Azure Windows VMs

| Azure, Azure Virtual Desktop | Leave a Comment

Here’s a scenario most Azure admins will recognise. Something needs doing on a group of Azure Windows VMs. Nothing complicated, maybe a service restart, a registry check, or an application that needs reinstalling. The task itself takes a minute. Getting to it doesn’t: it’s RDP onto the first VM, do the thing, log off, RDP

Intune: setting regional settings using proactive remediations

| Intune | Leave a Comment

G’day. Today I want to show you how to configure regional settings through Intune proactive remediation scripts: UK date formats, the pound sign, the right country, and a sensible clock. The reason this needs a script at all is simple enough. Regional settings aren’t in the Settings Catalog. There’s no policy to pick, no toggle

AVD Monitoring Baseline: Community Edition

| Azure Virtual Desktop | Leave a Comment

G’Day! Microsoft ships an official monitoring baseline for Azure Virtual Desktop as part of Azure Monitor Baseline Alerts (AMBA). Host pool capacity, CPU, memory, disk, FSLogix, storage, service health, all pre-built as one deployable pattern. Good idea in theory. In practice I kept running into alerts that were too noisy, alerts that stayed silent when they shouldn’t

Intune: Bulk Rename and Re-describe Every Profile in Minutes

| Intune | 2 Comments

G’day! If you’ve ever inherited an Intune tenant, you’ll know the feeling. You open Configuration profiles, and there it is ‘Win10 – Bitlocker v2’, ‘BitLocker Policy (NEW)’, ‘Copy of Copy of Defender’, a SCEP profile someone named after themselves in 2021, and forty others with no description between them. It’s a mess, and it makes

Azure Virtual Desktop: Cut Entra Hybrid Join Times from Hours to Minutes

| Azure Virtual Desktop | 6 Comments

G’day! If you’ve ever deployed Azure Virtual Desktop with Entra Hybrid Join, you’ll know the frustration. You deploy a perfectly good session host, everything provisions beautifully, domain join works, applications are installed, and then you sit there. Waiting. And waiting. And waiting some more for the bloody thing to show up as ‘Entra Hybrid Joined’

Teams VDI Optimisation Blocked by Security Policies? Here’s the Intune Fix for AVD & Windows 365

| Azure Virtual Desktop, W365 | 6 Comments

G’Day! I recently needed to fix an optimisation issue with Microsoft Teams on Windows 365 Cloud PCs — Teams was showing as “Not Optimised”. Once I traced the cause I realised the same fix works just as well for Azure Virtual Desktop, so I thought I’d share. If you’ve ever implemented security frameworks like CIS
